The 27-room Hotelli Finn is a Cheapo-friendly pick with a convenient location near all that the city center has to offer. A recent update has given it a modern and clean look.

Situated on the sixth floor of a building opposite Helsinki's famous Stockmann department store, the guestrooms have a contemporary flair. You'll find design touches like sleek black desks in some rooms and appealing dark and colorful tones in others. Each room includes a 32-inch HDTV, tea kettle, and bathroom essentials like shampoo, shower gel, and soap.

Bathrooms sport new tiles in either black slate or bright white. The Hotelli Finn offers nine rooms that share a shower in the hall, though all rooms have toilets. A few of the en-suite rooms have bathtubs (ask ahead).

Aside from the small reception and sitting area that sits midway along the long hall of guestrooms, the hotel has nothing in the way of common areas.

Intersected by the bustling Mannerheimintie Street, Helsinki's city center boasts the train station, Esplanadi Park, plenty of cafes as well as most of the hotels featured in our guide.

Chances are you'll be spending most of your time around this area: From the Kiasma and Ateneum art museums to the famous Stockmann department store, most of the city's attractions lie within the area northwest of Helsinki's north harbor. The central Kamppi and Kluuvi districts provide the best options for relatively cheap eats. Head south for the posh Design District.
